Father's Day

Father's Day was very special this year for me, even though we were not with our girls. The day started out like most any other day, with the exception that Sarah gave me my first Father's Day card from the girls.

What turned the day from ordinary to extraordinary was what happened during our visit to Target later that afternoon. For those of you who do not know, one of the most special moments that Hannah and I have shared over the last two visits to Guatemala City is to cook Mac N' Cheese for her. She absolutely loves for me to cook it for her! Keep this in mind, and you'll get the gist of the story and how special it is.

Sarah and I bought the girls several items for outdoor activities for when they come home. We also had some other general items that we needed to buy for around the house. Sarah checked out first, given that she had a gift card that she had been given to use strictly for the girls. She got her receipt (with no coupons attached), and then I checked out afterwards.

After paying, the cashier handed me two receipts - one receipt for purchases and another with coupons. I seldom pay attention to the second receipt that stores give out that has a long list of coupons for various items. However, as we walked out of Target that afternoon, I unraveled the second receipt and glanced at it. The foot long receipt only had one coupon on it - for none else than Hannah's Mac N' Cheese.

The best Father's Day gift I could have received was a sign that my girls were with me on that special day. A coupon from Target - who would have ever thought!
